The Zoning Resolution sorts every possible use of land in New York City into 10 Roman Use Groups (I-X). Each district permits a defined subset as-of-right. This taxonomy was restructured on December 5, 2024 as part of City of Yes for Economic Opportunity, replacing the pre-2024 1-18 system.

Retail stores, restaurants, personal services, professional services. Subdivides VI(A) Retail, VI(B) Service. Subsumes legacy UGs 6 + 7 + parts of 8 + 9.

Coming from the old 1-18 system?
Pre-City-of-Yes Use Groups (1-18) are still referenced in older cases and permits. Any URL like /zoning/use-group/6 redirects automatically to the canonical Roman successor (VI - Retail and Services). The redirect table covers all 18 legacy IDs.
